Fall 09 Students: Course Site Registration opens Friday before classes begin!

Special Announcement: The course password is sports. This class does not use Cuesta Blackboard. It uses Pageout. You are expected to already have the computer skills for an online class such as saving in pdf, manipulating files, and using different forms of interactive computer programs, before enrolling in this class.

Nutrition 230 has been a popular class for many semesters at Cuesta College. It meets a core requirement for the Fitness, Health, and Nutrition degree at Cuesta College, and draws any student interested in improving sports performance or fitness through better nutrition. Nutrition 230 is taught by Cherie Moore, M.S., full-time nutrition instructor at Cuesta College. The course will be offered as a 100% on-line course, which means that the class will NOT meet on campus and the coursework will be accomplished on-line or outside of class. Remember that public libraries offer free internet access when personal computers are not available or working.

Do This First:

·      Save this page as a Favorite/Bookmark so that you can easily find it again.

  • Print out this page so that you will have the detailed instructions of course material requirements and how to login the first time, then read and follow this page carefully.

·     Check out this link:   http://illinois.online.uillinois.edu/model/tips.htm

  • Read and follow this page carefully and as soon as you enroll in the class (through Cuesta College myCuesta).

  • This class is only for the motivated and online-savvy student

  • Be sure to register on Pageout (instructions below) by August 17th, remembering the first assignments are due by August 21st. You do not need to e-mail me before you begin as I will know you are enrolled in the class by your registration on Pageout and submission of your first (biography) assignment.

No Mandatory Meetings! A midterm and final Exam will be taken on-line with a 2-hour time limit each.

What to Buy (note- all items below won’t be available until the just before the semester begins):

Textbooks:

  • Required: Nutrition for Health, Fitness and Sport. Williams, 9th Ed., McGraw-Hill, 2009, (also available as E-text), packaged with NutriCalc Diet Analysis Online Code

Optional: Practical Nutrition for a Fit Life, Cherie Moore, 2006. (Same book you used if you were in Nutrition 210 with Moore)-Bookstore lists this as “required” and course will be easier for you if you have it, but I will try to put as much online as possible if you are looking to save money.

Software:

  • Course CD with Lecture Notes and Slides- these are required to view, but also will be available online, but may not work well with slow internet speeds.

No other bookstore or vendor can be trusted to supply the proper text; late work will not be accepted in the case of purchasing the wrong materials!

If you do not buy a new textbook from one of the Cuesta College Bookstores, you will need to purchase an access code for the diet analysis software separately.  The cost will be $25.00 plus tax and it can be purchased online at:

            www.mhhe.com/ncp3

Click on I do not have a McGraw-Hill Education account.  You can pay with American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa.
