Federal Work-Study (FWS)
is a federal financial aid program which allows students to work
while attending school. Wages start at $8.00 per hour and students can work up to 20 hours per
week while school is in session. Federal Work-Study students may
begin employment on August 18, 2008 for the Fall 2008
Semester. Please refer back for Spring 2009 employment
dates.
Work-Study employment positions are posted in the following
locations:
-
San Luis Obispo Campus--Career
Connections
Rm. #5310 in the Student Center
-
North County Campus--Financial Aid Office Rm. #3015, Paso
Robles
If you have been awarded FWS funds:
Review positions available and schedule an appointment
with the contact person listed on the form. If you are
hired for the position, have your employer complete the
paperwork that was sent with your award letter:
- FWS WORKSITE REFERRAL SHEET
- REQUEST FOR CLASSIFIED SUBSTITUTE/SHORT TERM HOURLY
AND STUDENT HELP FORM
- AND RETURN ALL FORMS TO THE FINANCIAL AID OFFICE!
As a new employee, you will also need to fill out
employment papers with the Cuesta College Human Resources
Office. The San Luis Obispo Campus office is located in
the Administration Building, Room 8003. The North County
Campus contact is Judy McDaniel, she is located in the
3000 Building, Room 3004. Be aware that you will not be
compensated for your work if these employment papers are
not submitted.
You may work up to 20 hours a week when school is in
session and must maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point
average and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
Timecards will be provided by the Financial Aid Office
once your employment papers are completed. Timecards must
be submitted to the Financial Aid Office by the last
working day of each month.
FWS students may not exceed their work study award. If
your award is exhausted during the school year,
employment will be terminated unless your employer is
able to retain you as an employee through department
funds. It is important to keep track of your earnings to
insure that you do not work over your work study award
amount and to inform your employer when your hours have
been exhausted.
If you have been awarded work study, and you are NOT
interested in working as a work study student, please
contact the Financial Aid Office, at (805) 546-3100, ext.
2505 so that we may award the funds to another student.
