ABOUT ME

Fay Elizabeth Johnson

For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a nurse. My mother told me that I use to bandage up my dolls. I was their nurse, instead of their mother. My favorite toys were doctor's and nurse's bags filled with medical equipment.
I graduated from Los Angeles Harbor Junior College in 1973 with an Associate Degree in Registered Nursing and a Certificate of Excellence in Nursing. I was so excited, I couldn't wait to start my career.
My first job was administering care to patients in a Multiple Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, California which is now the city of Carson. I have worked in many departments since my first job including Medical/Surgical, Obstetrics, Psychiatry, school nurse, and Gerontology. Because nursing is so diversified, there is never a reason to not enjoy your job.
My goal is to continue to develop courses to create a career ladder program for nurse assistants. My vision is for them to be more recognized as being a professional and valuable member of the health care team.
I have a passion for Nursing after thirty years of service. I hope if you are considering a career in nursing that you will also catch my vision and want to care for people when they are at their most vulnerable state.
