I attended Azusa Pacific University and received my BSN in 1981. Since then, I practiced in various adult ICU settings ranging from Cardiac Surgery, Multi-system Failure, to Neuro-Surgery Intensive Cares. For 1 1/2 years, I pioneered with other nurses the first Case Management position in a Central Coast Hospital. I maintain currency in my practice by working in the hospital setting during the summer.
In 1991, I completed my Masters in Nursing with emphasis on education from California State University--Dominguez Hills.
Currently, I teach in the Cuesta ADN program. My content areas include Med-Surg nursing for clients with Neurological, Genito-Urinary, Renal, and Endocrine problems, Pharmacology/Lab Values, Critical Thinking and Clinical, and Skills Lab practice. I also Co-Coordinate the Preceptorship. I am involved in shared governance at both the Division and College level specifically, the curriculum committee.
It is exciting to watch enthusiastic RN students grow into leaders, problem solvers, caring nursing professionals. Being a part of that nurturing is a privilege. One could relate it to a sculptor molding a piece of clay into a work of art---in this case, a professional accountable registered nurse.
A balance (self-care) is necessary. Family is #1. My husband, daughter and I enjoy the pleasures of playing at the park, scuba diving, gardening, visiting, local cafes, exercising, golfing, eating, and spending time with family and friends.
I still enjoy helping families and patients cope with the physiologic, psychological and spiritual stressors leading them to the need for hospitalization. Whether I am doing bedside nursing, guiding new employees, or nurturing students, I find great satisfaction as a Registered Nurse.
I love all aspects of nursing--I believe that nurses do make a difference--We just need to show it and prove it!
